LEARNING MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS

WHAT IS A LEARNING MANAGEMENT SYSTEM?

A Learning Management System (or LMS) is a software package that enables the management and delivery of learning content and resources to students. LMSs are web-based to facilitate "anytime, anywhere" access to learning content and administration. You may have heard of some of the common Learning Management Systems:

HOW CAN YOU USE A LEARNING MANAGEMENT SYSTEM?

First you need a course to build. Each course has its own set of resources and activities and can be customized in terms of organization and appearance. Once you have a course you can fill it with activities and texts, including audio and video. Imagine being able to reduce the number of photocopies! Students are also free to access those texts when it suits them. Your LMS course works particularly well when combined with face-to-face learning – also known as blended learning. Here are just a few examples of what you can do:
    • Provide students with links to websites relevant to a course.
    • Provide documents, such as syllabus, worksheets, diagrams, etc., electronically.
    • Enhance your teaching with online supplementary activities, both remedial and extension.
    • Create quizzes - both automatic scoring and manual grading options.
    • Create assignments with the ability for students to upload document.
    • Create collaborative work environments for students and colleagues.
    • And so much more!

  • Student sends the form link to the teacher for input - Sample: Feedback on: Middle of the Night Surprise
  • Student reviews teacher input on the spreadsheet where the teacher feedback was recorded in Google Docs

Review the feed back on the form above by logging in to our district's student Google Apps Domain!
